Statistics Formulas and Important Points

Mean Deviation=Sum of Deviations by Number of observations
The Deviation here means the difference of the observations from any of the central tendencies. But mostly we take the Deviation from Mean or Median but not from Mode.

Before we see more formulas we should see that the need for Mean Deviation is to get more accurate quantity to relate different quantities.

Here are the steps for finding Mean Deviation:
(a.) MD for Ungrouped Data

  1. We derive the desired Central Tendencies.
  2. We find the value of mod(x-a) for all x.
  3. We use the formula for calculating MD:
(b.) MD for Grouped Data

Types of Grouped Data
  1. Discrete Frequency Distribution
  2. Continuous Frequency Distribution
  •  Discrete Frequency Distribution
  1. We find the desired Central Tendency by the formulas of basic Statistics.
  2. We find the value of mod(x-a) for all frequency and observations.
  3. We find the value of f×mod(x-a) for all frequency and observations.
  4. We find MD by this formula:
For Central Tendency as Mean
For Median
  • Continuous Frequency Distribution
  1. We find the midpoint of the classes and take them as x
  2. We will the follow the same steps as the Continuous Frequency Distribution.
In many books I have seen that there is one more method namely Shortcut method. This is nothing but the step deviation method by which the it becomes easy for finding Mean.

Mean Deviation for CF distribution for a as Median
This is a bit different now. Here Median can be find by this formula:

Rest all the formulas are the same.
I will post another post for Standard Deviation and Variance.

    Semiconductors and Communication System

This chapter can be divided into following categories:- Classification Types of Semi-Conductors p-n junction diode Biasing of Diode Rectifiers Special Diodes (Zener, Photodiode, LED and Solar Cell) Transistors Logic Gates Communication System In the next few posts I will be posting in the same manner ie. (in bullets form) for your convenience and I hope that helps you in completing your syllabus. Classification Materials can be classified on the basis of conductivity as Conductors, Insulators and Semi Conductors. The basic difference among all the three is the difference of energy in between the Conducting and the Valence band. This can be seen here. Note- The range of conductivity should be kept in mind. For Semi-Conductors the energy difference is not very large but not even very less. So by providing proper conditions they can show conductivity. Types of Semi-Conductors Further we can say that there are two other types of semi con...

    Solid States of Matter

STATES OF MATTER We can classify matters into 3 types:- Solids  Liquids  Gas In this chapter, we will be discussing only Solids. SOLIDS In our daily life, we see many types of solid objects. Some of which can easily break and some of which are very hard. Some with a very shiny surface and some with no lustre at all. These are some of the physical features of a solid. They can be classified into two types on the basis of there crystal type:- Crystalline  Amorphous  Crystalline types are those whose structure is ordered in the entire Lattice. For Example, Diamond, Crystalline Glass etc. Amorphous are those whose structure is not ordered or ordered in a very small region. For Example, Graphite, Glass, etc. The Crystalline solids have a different unit constituent. The lattices formed by these units are called Bravais Lattices . There are basically 14 types of lattices. I have uploaded the structures from Wikipedia and no need t...

    Apologies for late posts

Dear Friends, I am really sorry for the late posting of the posts and I feel that it might have somehow been a problem to all of you. Hence I promise you that I will be posting at least three topics revision notes on my blog every week. I wanted to do more but due to my own schedule I am unable to push it further. I have got high hopes from this blog and now being in college I can devote myself to this blog even more. Just to let you know, from now onwards this blog will mostly be a go to place for those students who are looking for some reliable resource from where they can get enough revision for there weekly tests or phase tests or any related tests of JEE/NEET. I was also a JEE aspirant but due to my lack of note making, I could not get into the IIT's. But nevertheless, I am now a student of DTU civil branch and I strongly recommend you all to make proper notes and go through them as this creates the difference between an IITian and the rest. But still, if due to some reaso...
